Funchal’s City Day
The city of Funchal celebrates its 500 anniversary
on the 21st of August, an historical and symbolical
date.
Besides the great amount of activities that have
been taking place all over the city, and also the
official commemorations, on this day there will
be a relay race with participants of all Madeira
and Porto Santo districts, live music and dance
shows provided by musical groups and folklore
groups in the streets of Funchal, aerial acrobatics,
parachute jumping, paragliding, etc… On this
day, the city’s anniversary will be commemorated
in several ways.
At nightfall, Funchal will be invaded by two
parades, one of ancient cars and the other one,
with more than 600 participants, related to the
historical facts of Funchal.
